scoddie - thanks for becoming part of the Caring Voices community. You ask a great question about Peer Support. There are numerous ways you can seek and recieve this support and I have asked one of our social workers to also respond to your posting. As the Professional Lead in this community I am happy to tell you about Peer Support on Caring Voices.

In the chat section of this website we support real-time chats (sort of like IM). Serveral times a month these are lead by volunteers who has experienced cancer and other cancer survivors participate. There is one tonight at 8 p.m. ET lead by a breast cancer survivor. I hope you will be able to check it out.

You can also continue to post on these forums and you can take advantage of the people matching. This will allow you to find someone in the Caring Voices community who can both led and seek support.

I hope this information is helpful. If you require any additional insturction please contact me through the Contact Us link on this web site.

Again welcome to the community and I hope that we will be able to be helpful and lend support during your cancer journey.

Sara Urowitz,
Professional Lead Caring Voices Project.

Hi Scoddie Nice to hear from you. I am wondering where you are in the country and the type of peer support you are looking for. We do have peer support offered at various times here are Caring Voices. There is a wide variety of face to face and phone peer supports that are available to survivors in their home communities.

The Canadian Cancer Society has a phone support and has a resource list on their website that can help you find peer support in your geographic area. Next would be to find the type of support you would be looking for.

Above is an address that can help you find a support that you are looking for just add this to your web browser. I am glad you found Caring Voices and please contact us again if you are unable to find what you need.

I find it difficult to navigate the site. It looks like there were 5 comments yet I only see 3.
so as I send this out I have absolutely no idea where it will show up on the site.

I guess I'm going to have to read more instructions. Or maybe its because I'm on a MAC. No that makes no sense. Better go read.

thanks for the comments if this actually ends up in the right place.

scoddie - sorry you are having problems following this thread. The easiest way to follow the response are:
1) Select General Cancer Community
2) Click on Chats & Forums in the blue header bar
3) Click on Resource library that appears on the left hand navigation bar
4) select discussion thread named peer support.

Good luck. Once you've had time to navigate around the site a little more I think it will become more natural to you.

Sara
