Tour of the Site
Welcome to Caring Voices. This page will show you how to get around the site and introduce you to some of its main features.
The Home Page
The Home Page is your starting point each time you login to Caring Voices. From here, you can visit any of the four main sections of the site: Resource Library, Events, Chats & Forums, and People.
From the Home Page, you can also edit your profile by clicking My Profile in the top right of the page. This will allow you to change your personal settings, and will let other survivors learn more about you.
You can also use the home page to jump to the Featured Item, a selected resource that the Survivorship team thinks is particularly interesting or relevant. You can also get a quick preview of hot topics in the Resource Library, upcoming events in the calendar, current chat or forum topics and a list of all your friends that are online.
Resource Library
The Resource Library is an area of the site where you can find information on a wide range of topics important to survivorship. When you arrive at the Resource Library you can select from ten different categories or you can search the entire library for keywords.
Each category contains several smaller topics. For example, the Treatment Category contains topics on Surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiation, as well as a topic on Fatigue. Each of these topics contains articles that you can read, print and save.
You can also post comments about any of the articles you have read. Guests are free to read these comments but only registered users can post their own comments.
Events
In the Events area you can check the calendar for survivorship events happening both in-person and online. These events might include Meet & Greet sessions, seminars or classes, or even online group chats hosted by survivorship experts.
Events can be seen either in a calendar or as a list. Clicking on an event will give you more details on what it's about, where it is and how you can join.
Chats & Forums
A chat is an online conversation that takes place in real time. Chats can be private between two people or can be done in a larger group. If you are interested in chatting with other survivors you can choose one of the chat topics and join a conversation. If you want, you can even invite a friend to a private chat with you. Chats are only available to registered users so if you want to try it out you'll need to sign up.
A forum is a conversation that doesn't have to take place in real time. You can post messages and respond to others on your own time. Forums are organized into categories and topics, so you can contribute to a discussion or start your own. While anyone can read the comments in a forum, only registered users can post a message.
People
People is an area of the site that is only open to registered users of Caring Voices. In this section you can search for people who are in a situation that is similar to yours, people who have already experienced what you're going through, or even people whose experiences are completely different from yours.
Once you find a person you can learn more about them by reading their profile, you can invite them to chat with you and you can decide whether to add them to your list of friends. You can remain anonymous or you can tell people everything about yourself. It's really up to you.
This section of Caring Voices allows you to build up a community of peers you can turn to for advice, friends with whom you can share your experiences, or people to just talk to.
