Hello,
My name is Tanya Workman and I am involved with PhotoSensitive, a non-profit photo collective which, in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, has been touring its Cancer Connections exhibit across the country.
The show has been to eight provinces and will be visiting three more this year. There is also an online gallery of images, audio interviews and videos at www.photosensitive.com/cc. (The images are divided into groupings such as mother, best friend, neighbour, co-worker, nephew, wife and doctor.)
We currently have almost 800 photos and are hoping to make it to 1,000 by the final show in Ottawa tis June.
I'm posting this message here to encourage anyone who'd like to share their story to submit a black-and-white photo to Cancer Connections.
We are seeking images of those who have either survived cancer, lost a loved one to it, succumbed to it or who are at the forefront of the fight against the disease, such as doctors, nurses, scientists and fundraisers.
Our next deadline, to be included in the Vancouver show, is this Sunday, February 28, and there will be two more deadlines, for a show in Calgary and the Ottawa finale.
If you'd like to take part, photos can be submitted online via the submissions link at www.photosensitive.com/cc or via email to Project Coordinator James Burns, james@photosensitive.com.
Last year I conducted several interviews for the website, and I can honestly say I was amazed at what I heard. Yes, there were a few tears, but humour and strength were also in abundance. (You can find them on the website by clicking on "audio interviews" in the top right-hand corner of the top menu.)
I hope you will consider being part of Cancer Connections - or take part by visiting the website to connect with others' personal stories.
Thanks - and please email me or post here if you have any questions.
